Under the guidance of US entrepreneur Elon Musk, Twitter has undergone a remarkable transformation, now rebranding itself as “X” and unveiling a captivating art-deco logo. The announcement of this interesting change was made by Musk on his own Twitter profile on July 23, where he bid farewell not only to the Twitter brand but also to the birds that have been synonymous with the platform.

In a tweet following Musk’s announcement, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino elaborated on the new identity of X. She described X as a future realm of boundless interactivity, with a focus on audio, video, messaging, payments/banking, and the creation of a global marketplace that embraces ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. All of this, powered by the might of AI, will foster connections that are beyond our current imagination.

The logo for X was chosen uniquely, as Musk turned to crowdsourcing to curate it. The result is an elegant black-and-white X with a double bar diagonally crossing a single bar. Musk emphasized that this emblem should embody the distinctive imperfections found within each of us, making us truly exceptional. He also pointed out that the logo’s style draws its closest inspiration from the art deco movement.

Already, the new logo has replaced the iconic Twitter bird on the website for some users. Both Musk’s personal Twitter page and the official Twitter page have also embraced the new X logo, marking the start of a new chapter. As part of the rebranding, the x.com website now redirects visitors to twitter.com. Yet, even with the change, an opportunity remains for visitors to acquire the domain.

Twitter’s association with the letter X is not limited to this transformation. It follows the launch of xAI, an AI startup, which shares the same letter. Additionally, Musk’s space exploration company, SpaceX, secured a NASA contract to create a moon lander.

A WeChat wannabe?

The vision doesn’t stop there, as Musk envisions an “everything app” akin to China’s WeChat, encompassing a wide array of functionalities. His acquisition of Twitter is a stepping stone in creating this all-encompassing vision called X. With this bold move, Twitter sets its course to leave an even greater impact on the world, revolutionizing how we communicate and interact on a global scale.
