Riding a bike at night can be dangerous which is why cyclists are usually encouraged to wear reflective clothing and to have lights on their bikes to tell other drivers that they are there. This works great to a certain extent, but when it comes to turning corners, this is where it gets a bit dangerous as bikes for the most part do not come with built-in indicators.

However this is where the Lumos bike helmet comes into the picture. The Lumos helmet is a bike helmet designed with safety in mind, as are all bike helmets, with the added bonus of coming with a pair of built-in indicators in them. These indicators will allow the cyclist to tell drivers behind them where they are planning to turn, as opposed to sticking out their arms.

The indicators can be activated by a small wireless remote attached to the bike’s handlebars. On top of that, the bike even comes with a built-in accelerometer so that when it detects you are slowing down, the brake lights on the back of the helmet will activate. There are also integrated lights on the front of the helmet, just in case your regular lights aren’t enough.

As for the helmet’s safety itself, there’s nothing to shout about since it meets both the US and Europe’s standards of safety, so bikers can rest assured that the helmet will still be able to protect their noggin while remaining high-tech. If you’re a cyclist who thinks this is a great idea, Lumos is currently on Kickstarter trying to raise money to become a reality, so head on over and pledge your support if you’d like to see it being made.
