samsung logoIf there is one thing that Samsung is known for, it would be their displays. With their AMOLED technology, Samsung has put out some very beautiful and vibrant displays. That and the fact that they’re not shy about adopting new resolutions puts them ahead of the game. However it seems that the company might have an even more epic project in the works.

According to reports out of Korea, it seems that Samsung is working on creating a display with a resolution of 11K. Yup, that is not a typo, it is for real! It seems that this project will be worked on by Samsung and the South Korean government in which the latter is expected to invest a whopping $26.5 million over the course of the next 5 years.

It will also see the involvement of 13 domestic and foreign companies, all of whom will be contributing to the technology to make it a reality. Dubbed EnDK, the public prototype is expected to be unveiled in 2018 at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, although at this point in time it is unclear as to what a display with such a high resolution could be used for.

However according to ETNews, the idea of using such a high resolution is to create a 3D effect where the resolution will be able to simulate it as some kind of optical illusion, thus eliminating the need for special monitors or glasses. We’d hate to think of how much power it would take to power such a display, not to mention the battery drain if it were to make its way onto mobile devices, but hey, all in the name of technology, right?
