It has been a long time since Apple upgraded the Apple TV. Many thought that the company would show off a new set-top box at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2015 back in June but Apple didn’t talk about its set-top box at the event. All eyes are now on the event next month which will primarily be about the new iPhones. According to a new report a revamped Apple TV is going to debut in September, it will run iOS 9 optimized for TV and will have Siri.

Also expected to debut alongside the new set-top box is an App Store for the Apple TV, a new remote control, additional onboard storage, several other new features as well as an SDK for developers who want to offer their own apps.

It was previously said that Apple didn’t unveil a new Apple TV at WWDC 2015 because it couldn’t sign the required deals with content partners, however 9to5mac reports that the delay was due to an internal concern regarding an early launch which would have compromised engineering resources otherwise needed for iOS 9.

The report suggests that the new Apple TV is going to have a slimmer design with a larger remote control that has tactile keys and support for touch and gesture based inputs.

Other improvements include a powerful new processor, more storage and an overhauled user interface. The much rumored internet TV service from Apple may not launch with the new hardware though as recent reports suggest it may have been pushed back to 2016.
