Xiaomi has only been around for a few years but it has already become a force to be reckoned with in China’s smartphone market, the company is also steadily expanding its operations to neighboring countries while it keeps its eye on expansion possibilities in the West. Seems like smartphones, TVs and mobile devices aren’t the only products that the company wants to build, a report published today claims that the company is also looking to get in the laptop business.

The company might need help to take on established players in the laptop market and it is reportedly looking towards Samsung for help.

Bloomberg reports that Xiaomi is in talks with Samsung in order to source displays and memory components for laptops, the report also claims that Xiaomi’s laptop could arrive in the market as early as next year.

Apparently the company has Apple’s MacBook Air in its sights and that’s what it would like to compete against when its first laptop hits the market. It won’t be an easy task though, MacBook Air has been a tried and tested soldier for Apple which not only sells because of its incredible build quality but also because it runs Apple’s OS X operating system.

We can rule out Apple licensing OS X to a rival so where does that leave us? Windows 10 seems like the natural alternative. Xiaomi has not officially commented on this report yet.
