Apple Watch-Tumbles-4-Up-PRINTChoosing a watch is more than just choosing how it looks like, how it feels on your wrist, how many features it has, and what brand it is. When choosing a timepiece, looking at how accurate the watch is in telling time is just as important, which is pretty much what Apple’s VP of Technology Kevin Lynch is trying to say in an interview with Mashable.

According to the interview, Lynch was boasting about how accurate the Apple Watch is when it comes to keeping time. He claims that it is apparently four times more accurate than the iPhone, which is an odd boast given that the Apple Watch is connected to the iPhone and is connected to the same servers where they pull their time data from.

However according to Lynch, he claims that Apple deploys certain tricks and techniques to ensure that the Apple Watch is the most accurate timekeeping device, at least as far as smartwatches are concerned. For example the watch features a crystal temperature-control oscillator. This manages the change temperature in order to prevent it from affecting the watch’s ability to tell time accurately.

They even test the watch’s digital second hand by filming it with high-speed cameras to ensure that there is zero latency, and that every tick is indeed one second. According to Lynch, “With New Year’s coming, those who have the Apple Watch will be the most accurate watch in the room. There will be no question about when New Year’s Eve actually is now.” Whether or not Lynch’s claims are true remains to be seen, but if you are an Apple Watch owner, we suppose this is a feature you can boast about to your friends at your New Year’s Eve party.
