nintendo mobileWhen Nintendo announced their first mobile game, Miitomo, safe to say many were confused by Nintendo’s choice. While we have no idea how the game will play since it hasn’t been released, many were assuming that Nintendo would burst out the door with something a little more familiar to gamers and fans of the company’s titles.

Nintendo did eventually state that they will release titles with more popular characters in the future, and a recent report from The Wall Street Journal quotes Nintendo’s CEO Tatsumi Kimishima as saying that for the company’s second mobile game, they will be bringing in a character that fans will be very familiar with.

According to Kimishima, “The second game won’t be another communication app, and we plan to adopt one of our characters that fans are very familiar with.” Unfortunately the company declined to say which franchise this character will be coming from, but if you are a fan of Nintendo’s first-party titles, we guess any character should do the trick.

However as Nintendo has pointed out in the past, games released for mobile won’t be ports of existing titles. This means that don’t expect to play Super Mario or Smash Bros on your phones just yet. Instead they will be new titles that will feature familiar faces. In the meantime Miitomo has yet to receive a firm release date, but the game will be one of several titles Nintendo has planned for this year.
