Samsung-PayJust like Apple, Samsung also announced that they would be expanding to China last December with a partnership with UnionPay. However the question is when will that happen? Samsung Pay’s expansion plans were supposed to be announced at MWC, but it looks like we won’t have to wait that long.

According to a recent announcement by Samsung, the company has confirmed that they will be expanding their Samsung Pay mobile payments service to China this coming March. The company has also announced that in addition to China, they will be rolling out the service to other countries like Australia, Brazil, Singapore, Spain, and the UK later in the year, with Canada also being part of the planned roadmap.

InJong Rhee, Head of R&D, Software and Services, EVP of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics said, “We’ve already seen significant consumer adoption and we continue to see great momentum. Our aim is to expand Samsung Pay to even more locations around the world, and our customers should expect to see more features in the year to come.”

Apple Pay has also recently been launched in China and while China’s population is basically a huge untapped market, there will be stiff competition from local Chinese companies who have already established their own platforms and systems, like WeChat who already has a moible payments feature.
