foursquare marsbotIf you’re looking for food or drink recommendations, there are plenty of apps available for that, although right now one of the leading choices would be Foursquare. Now it seems that Foursquare wants to take things to the next level by telling its users where they can eat and drink when it thinks you are looking for a suggestion.

Dubbed Marsbot, Foursquare is making it clear that Marsbot is not a chatbot. Instead, “We chose to experiment with offering proactive and personalized recommendations. It’s a completely different mode of interaction. With a chatbot, you ask specific questions and give specific prompts for what you need. Our goal with Marsbot is to give you the answers before you even ask—just based on where you are and where you usually go.”

Basically instead of it being a reactive kind of AI, Marsbot has been designed to be a proactive AI in which it can recommend users where it thinks they might be interested in, as you can see in the screenshot to the right. It will be able to learn your habits over time to get a better understanding of who you are and the kind of places that you frequent.

As it stands, Marsbot is only available for iOS users and at the moment only works in New York City and San Francisco. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, head on over to the iTunes App Store for the download.
