Facebook introduced Instant Articles earlier this year. It’s a new program that publishers can sign up for to have their articles hosted on Facebook itself, this makes them load very quickly to readers who click through to those articles from the world’s largest social network. Instant Articles were previously limited to the main Facebook app on mobile but they are now available in Facebook Messenger as well.

Users can spot Instant Articles by looking out for a little lightning bolt in the upper righthand corner of an article shared with them in Messenger. If there’s a lightning bolt there it means that it’s an Instant Article and is definitely going to load very quickly than it normally would if you were to click through to the publisher’s website.

Facebook says that an Instant Article loads up to ten times faster than a standard mobile web article and that the very same experience can be expected by Facebook Messenger users.

Instant Articles support for Facebook Messenger first arrives on Android starting today while iOS gets it in the coming weeks. More and more publishers are signing up to be a part of this program seeking to capitalize on the promise of a better reading experience for Facebook users.
