samsung-exynos-7570Recently SoftBank announced that they had completed the acquisition of ARM, and like we stated it was a big deal because many big names in the mobile industry rely on ARM for their mobile chipsets, and Samsung is one of them. They also rely on ARM for their mobile GPUs, with ARm’s Mali series of GPUs being featured on Samsung’s Exynos chipsets.

However that could be changing in the future because according to a report from SamMobile, they have learnt from their sources that Samsung is apparently in talks with NVIDIA and AMD about licensing their GPU technologies for use in future handsets, indicating that maybe Samsung might be moving away from ARM’s Mali, or at least expanding their options.

In terms of mobile, NVIDIA no doubt has an advantage over AMD, especially when you consider a few years ago, NVIDIA’s Tegra chipsets could be found on quite a few mobile products, although in recent years the company has scaled down their mobile efforts considerably, but not completely as we have seen in their SHIELD series of mobile gaming devices.

It is unclear as to what will be the result of these talks, so we guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens, so until then take it with a grain of salt.
