adidas-x-parleyIt seems that the more advanced we get, the greater we seem to pollute. However adidas is hoping to do its part for the environment as they have teamed up with Parley for the adidas x Parley Uncage Ultra Boost shoes that will have its silhouette primarily made out of ocean plastic.

For those wondering what on earth is ocean plastic, basically these are plastic debris that is floating around our oceans that have been tossed out by individuals or companies looking to dump their refuse. The problem is so great that it has been estimated that out of the total marine debris floating out there in our oceans today, a whopping 80% are plastics, which in turn can kill marine life by being ingested by them or by trapping them.

In terms of construction/design of the shoe, the upper portion of the sneakers will feature the company’s Primeknit in white constructed of 95% ocean plastic, a white Boost sole, as well as green accents on the heel. In addition, the laces, heel cap, and sock liner are made from materials obtained by Parley from coastal operations in the Maldives.

According to adidas’ CEO Eric Liedtke, an initial batch of 7,000 shoes will be mass produced first, but the company expects to produce 1 million pairs by the end of 2017. The first batch is expected to be made available mid-November where it will be priced at $222.
