nintendo-wave-raceThere’s something about Nintendo’s first-party games that are so uniquely classic that even until today, they are still being played and talked about. Even in this day and age people are still doing Mario speedruns and discovering secrets that were previously hidden. Now it looks like another classic could be making a comeback in the form of Wave Race.

According to a recent trademark filing, it has been discovered that Nintendo has filed a trademark for “Wave Race” with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. It is a Class 9 registration which refers to game software. The game made its debut on the Game Boy back in 1992. It was then released on the Nintendo 64 back in 1996, and then the GameCube in 2001. Given that the Wii and Wii U’s time is pretty much at an end, we can only assume that this registration has to do with the upcoming Nintendo Switch.

Of course there is no guarantee that the game will arrive on the Switch. For all we know it could be a game designed for the Nintendo 3DS, although with the Switch being Nintendo’s latest focus, chances are it is probably more for the Switch than anything else. It is also possible that Nintendo is just trying to trademark the name for copyright purposes and nothing more.

In any case Nintendo is expected to share more details about the Nintendo Switch at their presentation scheduled for the 12th of January, so do remember to check back with us then for the details regarding pricing, specs, and also titles that are planned for the console.
