We previously heard rumors that Samsung was thinking about launching the Galaxy S8 ahead of schedule in order to cut its losses following the Galaxy Note 7 debacle but the company has already ruled out an early launch for its next flagship. It was reported by a credible newspaper yesterday that Samsung might actually delay the Galaxy S8 launch in order to run more tests on the device. A report out of Korea today claims that Samsung will start testing the Galaxy S8 in January and that it’s yet to lock in a launch date.

Citing multiple Samsung suppliers, the report says that the company has told its key suppliers to provide an initial batch of their parts for the Galaxy S8 in January. The report also mentions that full volume supplies will begin in February which is presumably when Samsung is going to start mass production of its next-generation flagship smartphone.

Samsung normally unveils new Galaxy S series smartphones at the Mobile World Congress convention in Barcelona which takes place in February next year. It then goes on sale globally the following month.

Another parts supplier tells the scribe that it’s still possible for the Galaxy S8 to be released in March even though Samsung is said to be preparing additional tests for the Galaxy S8 to ensure that it doesn’t face the same problems that the Galaxy Note 7 did because it really can’t afford to see a repeat of what happened to its now discontinued flagship phablet.
