It has been about two years since Samsung launched the Galaxy S8 handsets, and the good news for owners of the device is that if you were worried that Samsung had forgotten about you, it seems that they haven’t. According to a report from SamMobile, it appears that the company has started the rollout of the Android 9.0 Pie update for users in Germany.
Samsung normally limits its beta programs for major Android updates to the flagship Galaxy S series released that year. However, it’s doing things a bit differently for Android Pie. Not only was the beta opened up for the Galaxy Note 9, it appears that the company might be thinking about extending it to the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy Note 8 as well.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note handsets have traditionally received new major firmware updates after the flagship Galaxy S models from that particular year have been updated. That might not be the case for the Galaxy Note 8, though. A new roadmap shared by Samsung suggests that the Galaxy Note 8 might get the Android Pie update before the Galaxy S8 does.
One of the problems with Android phones and the companies that make them is that unless you’re Google and you own a Pixel device, it’s hard to tell if new features will be coming to your phone, especially if you own an older device. However at the same time it is understandable as companies would much prefer to devote their resources to current and future products.

This is actually the first flagship smartphone from Samsung to receive the latest security maintenance release.
We reported last week that even though the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have received Android 8.0 Oreo on most carriers in the United States, there was one smaller carrier that was yet to release the much-awaited update. That carrier was U.S. Cellular which has made its users wait considerably for a taste of Oreo. The wait ends for them today as U.S. Cellular has finally released the Android 8.0 […]
It has been a couple of months since carrier-locked variants of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ started receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update in the United States. All four major carriers have released the update already but users on a smaller carrier, U.S. Cellular to be precise, have yet to make the jump. The carrier has still not released the Oreo update for these handsets.
It appears that Samsung has another variant of the Galaxy S8 in the pipeline which has been surfacing online over the past couple of weeks. It’s referred to as the Galaxy S8 Lite which suggests that while it may have the same design as the 2017 flagship, it may not have the same internals. Some new press renders of the alleged Galaxy S8 Lite have now appeared online which not […]

This was obviously good news since we’re sure that many users have been waiting quite a while to get their hands on the update, but for some reason the update has been halted.
Google announced its Project Treble last year to enable its hardware partners to deliver Android updates faster. It’s no secret that Android updates aren’t rolled out as quickly as users would want them to which is why it’s a very fragmented operating system, Android 8.0 Oreo is the latest iteration of the platform and while it has been out for almost six months, it powers just one percent of all […]
