Nokia is returning to the smartphone market next year and there’s a lot of anticipation about the new handsets that will be launched under this iconic brand. Not much is known about the upcoming smartphones at this point in time but the CEO of the company making these handsets has said that the new Nokia Android smartphones are going to offer premium quality while being competitively priced.

Nokia sold its hardware business to Microsoft a couple of years ago and basically bowed out of the smartphone market. The Finnish company isn’t returning itself. It has actually licensed its brand to another Finnish company called HMD Global which will be making these smartphones.

HMD Global CEO Arto Nummela has said in a recent interview that the new Nokia Android smartphones will arrive in the first half of 2017. HMD is going to work with Foxconn which is going to manufacture the devices at its factories in India.

The company is going to market its new smartphones globally from day one but it has identified high-growth markets like India where it’s going to particularly focus on pushing its devices. Without revealing too much about the new device lineup, he did mention that it’s going to be “premium execution in each and every price point.”

Nummela has also said that these smartphones will have a design that people will “immediately recognize as Nokia,” and that the company is going to be extremely competitive in terms of specs and price, “but we’re not going to be highlighting the megapixels or gigahertz,” he added.

There have been some rumors about the upcoming Nokia smartphones but nothing is set in stone for now.
