apple-tv-app-1Playing video on Facebook isn’t a new function or feature, but in the past it has been rumored several times that Facebook wants to make a bigger push into video, and perhaps create something that would rival the likes of YouTube. We haven’t really seen anything yet, but a new report suggests that it could be in the works and it could arrive for the Apple TV.

In a report from The Wall Street Journal (via AppleInsider), it seems that Facebook is apparently developing a dedicated video app for the Apple TV. The idea is that through this app, users will be able to find Facebook videos easily, and it would also make for a great platform in which Facebook can sell ad space to companies.

The publication’s sources told them that this will be a 100% video app, and that if you were hoping to access non-video content, such as audio or maybe photos, you’d be out of luck. The report did not mention when exactly the new app will be launched, but we are curious to see how it will hold up against the competition if and when it does launch.

Facebook has in the past dabbled in various standalone apps. Some of which have proven to be successful, while others were unfortunately shuttered after a short stint, so we have to wonder how this particular app will fare.
