If you rely on WhatsApp pretty heavily to communicate with friends, colleagues, or clients, then you’re probably aware that at this time of writing, WhatsApp is down. For those who are unaware and are wondering why they can’t connect to WhatsApp, it is because the service is experiencing a worldwide outage at the moment.

It is unclear as to what might be the problem, but a statement provided to Reuters revealed what the company is aware of the issue and are working to get it back up online. So far the service has been down for more than an hour which doesn’t seem very long, but considering how many people rely on the service, one hour probably feels like an eternity.

The last we heard, WhatsApp had over 1 billion users and this was back in 2016. Presumably by now they will have a lot more, and having 1 billion users unable to access the service for over an hour is probably rather frustrating for everyone involved. Many users have since taken to Twitter to voice their displeasure over the downtime.

In any case hopefully this is something that  WhatsApp will be able to address soon, and we’ll keep you guys updated for when the service does get back online.
