While Apple might have the resources, reputation, connections, and distribution to help them get a leg up on the competition with Apple Music, it seems that they are still not yet the number one music streaming service provider. In fact that honor goes to Spotify who according to a report from Reuters, is now boasting 60 million paid subscribers.

This is an addition of 10 million paid subscribers in less than five months, a very impressive feat, especially when you consider that unlike Apple Music or Play Music, Spotify is typically not bundled together with smartphones, meaning that users will need to download and subscribe to the service themselves.

Taking into consideration that Spotify charges $10 a month for users using its services, that’s a lot of money the company is raking in. That being said while Spotify is clearly in the lead, we shouldn’t be so quick to discount Apple just yet. Last we heard, Apple was boasting 20 million paid subscribers which is impressive as the service has been around less time than Spotify.

It was also found that Apple had more active users per month than the competition, although based on the figures it seems that not all of these active users translated into subscribers.
