Galaxy S8 Active Official, AT&T May Lose Exclusivity

Ever since Samsung started making “Active” variants of its Galaxy S flagships, they have been exclusive to AT&T in the United States. AT&T was the only point-of-sale for these variants because Samsung didn’t even release unlocked models of Active devices. That might change this year, though. AT&T is likely to lose its Galaxy S8 Active exclusivity, according to official word from the company itself.

AT&T made the Galaxy S8 Active official earlier today. It’s Samsung’s toughest Galaxy smartphone yet as its shatter, shock, dust, and water resistant. As expected, the Galaxy S8 Active features a 5.8 inch shatter resistant Quad HD Super AMOLED display.

It’s not the curved Infinity Display but a flat panel. There’s a metal frame and a bumper on all four sides for added resistance. The back has a texture for sturdy gripping. Under the hood, you’ll find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

It has a 4,000mAh battery which is going to be the envy of all Galaxy S8+ owners that have to make do with a 3,500mAh cell.

Samsung has said that the Galaxy S8 Active is going to be exclusive to AT&T “for a limited time,” this suggests that the Galaxy S8 Active might see a wider launch. AT&T is going to start taking pre-orders for the handset from tomorrow.

The Galaxy S8 Active will be available on its Next plans with prices starting at $28 per month for 30 months.
