Late last year, Ultimate Ears launched the Blast and Megablast speakers. While the company does announce new Bluetooth speakers from time to time, what made these speakers different is the fact that they will come with Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant built into them, thus giving Alexa users an alternative to the Echo speakers.

The good news is that if you were looking for added voice control, you’ll be pleased to learn that Ultimate Ears will be rolling out Spotify voice control through Alexa in the near future. What does this mean? This means that users will be able to link their Spotify accounts to the speakers, and from there will be able to issue commands like, “Alexa, play my Discover Weekly” and it will play music from your Spotify account.

The connection to your Spotify account also means that users won’t need to pair their phone with the speakers in order to enjoy music from Spotify, and as Engadget points out, it uses WiFi to stream versus Bluetooth which could address issues like stability and also not having to worry about whether your phone is nearby.

So if you own either speaker and also use Amazon’s Alexa, then this update could be worth keeping an eye out for.
