Just when you thought that the whole Apple versus Samsung lawsuit was over, just a couple of weeks ago Samsung had asked for a retrial in which they felt that the damages they were told to pay Apple was unfair. However in an interesting twist, it appears that both companies are now done with the lawsuit.

Both Apple and Samsung have made a filing with the Northern District Court of California in which they have agreed to both settle and drop the lawsuit against each other. The document reads in part, “Plaintiff Apple Inc. and Defendants Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Samsung Electronics America, Inc., and Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC would like to inform the Court that they have agreed to drop and settle their remaining claims and counterclaims in this matter.”

Apple and Samsung’s patent battle has been going on since 2011 when Apple sued Samsung for violating design patents with their Android phones. This has been a back and forth battle where each company countersued at every turn, and also brought the fight to courts in countries around the world.

It is unclear what brought about this change of heart, but interestingly enough this report comes hot on the heels of an earlier report which claims that Samsung might be trying to win orders for Apple’s A13 chipset, which we imagine this settlement could help contribute to the reparation of the relationship between both companies.
