While the PS4 Pro came out not too long ago, it seems that there are talks about next-gen consoles like the PS5. Now Sony has stated that the PS5 is about 3 years away from being announced, but we’re sure many are curious about the console industry. Is this going to be an infinite cycle of upgrades after another?

While we’re not clairevoyant, Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot believes that the next generation of consoles could be the last. Speaking to Variety in an interview, Guillemot was quoted as saying, “I think we will see another generation, but there is a good chance that step-by-step we will see less and less hardware.”

Instead he believes that streaming could be the next big thing. “With time, I think streaming will become more accessible to many players and make it not necessary to have big hardware at home. There will be one more console generation and then after that, we will be streaming, all of us.”

Companies have been testing out game streaming for a while now, such as Capcom who “launched” Resident Evil 7 on the Nintendo Switch via cloud streaming. Plus there are companies such as Valve whose Steam Link app allows full PC games to be played on our phones. Of course only time will tell, but what do you guys think?
