BART Passengers To Get Wi-Fi Connectivity

Folks who commute via BART will soon have the benefit of Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing one to read/send emails and hold video conferences without worrying about spotty connections while relying on an EV-DO USB modem as well as the many blind spots as one goes under the tunnel. This 20-year old deal will see 104 miles of track and all 43 stations be fitted with Wi-Fi connectivity before 2011 comes to a close in a collaboration between the BART authorities and Wi-Fi Rail Inc. There are currently around 16,000 testers who are using this service for free, although when it kicks in, subscribers will have to cough up $30 monthly, although those who use the BART sparingly can pay $9 a day, $6 for a couple of hours or $300 for the entire year’s worth of subscription. Well, better make sure the battery life in your notebook/Wi-fi enabled device is able to last the distance though as there won’t be any power outlets available.
