Gawker Media websites hacked

It seems as though a bunch of Gawker Media websites were hacked, where they abruptly stopped publishing new material today after mischief-making hackers obtained access to the company’s servers. Folks who had accounts on Gawker Media’s jewels such as Gizmodo and Jezebel were informed to change their passwords in a statement that mentioned “our user databases appear to have been compromised.” Over 1.3 million user names and passwords were obtained by the hackers, and it remained unclear whether all of the data had been decrypted at press time or not. Apparently, thousands of users also listed their password as “password” – a huge no-no in this day and age, and yet it still happened. Well, it goes to show that it always pays to err on the side of caution, eh? Having said that, have you made sure all your passwords to various accounts are secure enough?
