Acer preparing tablets with Sandy Bridge processors, scaling back netbooks?

An Acer sales manager has stated that the Taiwanese company is planning to build a few new Android-powered tablets this year, including 7- and 10-inch models that feature Intel Sandy Bridge processors. The report also claims that Acer will be scaling back its netbook plans in favor of tablets. While such a move isn’t too surprising considering how popular tablets are, it’ll be interesting if this means that we’ll be seeing less and less netbooks over the next few years and if they’ll slowly be replaced by tablets. We already know that Sandy Bridge chips are more powerful than the usual ARM-based chips in many Android tablets, and there are whispers that these tablets from Acer will sport quad-core processors, which means that there will be some serious processing grunt. With Apple’s iPad 2 slated (pun intended) to arrive in the near future, it will be interesting to see how the battle on the tablet scene heats up.
