Best Buy’s new ‘Buy Back’ program to launch on Jan 5th

Leaked documents have surfaced that hint of Best Buy launching a new Buy Back program. According to this latest protection plan, consumers will be able to sell back their devices for a percentage of its original MSRP. The plan will cover devices such as phones, notebooks, netbooks, tablets and TVs priced under $5,000 from January 5th. The service will also be expanded to “other product categories” sometime during the fiscal year 2012 and commercials and advertisements will be airing from February 6th in order to increase awareness of this program.

When the program is in place, TVs under 6 months old can be returned for 50% of the original full-retail price, dropping to 40% in the 6-12 month period and so on. All Buy Backs will be issued in the form of Best Buy gift cards and the company is positioning the program as protection against obsolescence. Would such a program be an additional incentive for you to shop at Best Buy?
