Best Buy’s new ‘Buy Back’ program to launch on Jan 5th

Leaked documents have surfaced that hint of Best Buy launching a new Buy Back program. According to this latest protection plan, consumers will be able to sell back their devices for a percentage of its original MSRP. The plan will cover devices such as phones, notebooks, netbooks, tablets and TVs priced under $5,000 from January 5^th. The service will also be expanded to “other product categories” sometime during the fiscal year 2012 and commercials and advertisements will be airing from February 6^th in order to increase awareness of this program.

When the program is in place, TVs under 6 months old can be returned for 50% of the original full-retail price, dropping to 40% in the 6-12 month period and so on. All Buy Backs will be issued in the form of Best Buy gift cards and the company is positioning the program as protection against obsolescence.
