MMS Malware sent out on Valentine’s Day

Valentine's Day malwareThe festive season is usually the time of year where malware is easily spread and it’s no different this time of the year – Valentine’s Day. In a recent malware outbreak in Russia, unsuspecting folk that downloaded some MMS apps found themselves on the receiving end of a premium bill due to the worm that was disguised as something cute and innocent. The apps were loaded with pictures of teddy bears, hedgehogs, hearts, dogs and roses – innocent looking creatures and objects that not many people would’ve been able to resisted clicking on. It hasn’t been reported how much damage has been done or how far it has spread, but the malware works on any phone that runs Java, so quite a lot of phones were possible targets. Just a friendly reminder to everybody – the next time you see a cuddly bear app up for download – think twice before you click install. More details about the malware here.
