Amazon tablet relies on two-finger multi-touch to cut costs?

We know that the US is about to run out of cash in slightly more than a week’s time unless the politicians come to a resolution, which means companies that are prudent enough would have long worked on cost cutting measures – and in Amazon’s case, their upcoming tablet might see a lower quality touchscreen display that supports just two-finger multi-touch, which is a far cry from other devices such as the iPad 2 that is capable of supporting up to 10-finger touches simultaneously. No idea on who the supplier will be, as well as the total panel cost, but it seems you’re just restricted to pinching your Amazon tablet’s display when it finally hits retail stores.

Since it is powered by the Android operating system, losing complex multi-touch capability might just make it impotent with several Android apps that normally recognizes more than two fingers.

Perhaps with this sacrifice, the Amazon tablet will be cheaper than the iPad, leaving customers to choose carefully whether they are willing to fork out more dough for more features. A basic case of economics, really.
