Nest Thermostat torn apart

Remember the Nest Thermostat that we talked about at the end of October? Well, this stunning device that intends to help usher in a new green era of electronics is certainly one good example of being beautiful within and without. Not only does it look good from the outside, just like what mom always stressed that inner beauty is far more important, so too, does the Nest Thermostat follow the same train of thought. For $249 a pop, this rather expensive thermostat has value in its aesthetics, as SparkFun has taken the device apart to show how well built it is, in addition to sporting a beefy processor to get the job done apart from all the relevant connectivity options.

Everything underneath the hood certainly looks extremely sleek and clean, which is pretty much expected since Tony Fadell, the creator behind it, also oversaw the iPod design and production in the initial years of the iPod’s commercial life. A Sitara AM37x ARM Cortex-A8 chip sits pretty inside, being capable of running Linux, Android, and Windows Embedded CE without missing a beat. OpenGL ES 2.0 is also supported thanks to the PowerVR core, while a ZigBee SoC might eventually see wireless action after a firmware update down the road.
