China Unicom robot educates the public about networks

China Unicom robotIf you want to educate the public more about 3G, mobile internet, cloud computing and home networks – what better way to get the attention of the public than with something eye-catching? Like this robot called “Waiter” from China Unicom. Featuring two displays – one in its head and one in its chest, the top display is used to show off the robot’s emotions, while its chest will display information for people to watch and take in.

The robot features movable arms, onboard cameras and a laser range finder to detect and interact with human beings. It was also able to recognize and follow simple commands like “hello” and “dance” when spoken to. No word on how effective the robot was in educating the public, but it’s only going to be a matter of time before these robots start becoming a common sight as opposed to something special.
