According to the designers, methane and other noxious gases tend to build up over time, which could result in possible explosions. Not only is this dangerous but highly inconvenient especially for motorists, which is why this smart manhole cover will indicate on its cover regarding the safety levels of the gases below, flashing red if dangerous levels are detected.
The rest of the time, the methane and noxious gases will be used to power the manhole cover, and at the same time providing electricity to maintenance workers to help power their tools. It’s a rather innovative idea and could even be used as a form of power reserve during times of no electricity. Anyone else on board this idea?
