Verizon’s HTC Rhyme Getting an OTA Update; Not Ice Cream Sandwich

HTC-Rhyme-Verizon

A new update has been rolled out for Verizon’s HTC Rhyme and before you whip out your phone and install what you expect to be Ice Cream Sandwich on your handset, please note that it isn’t. The update will bring the version of Verizon’s HTC Rhyme to 2.20.605.3710RD and although it does contain some tweaks and minor changes, it doesn’t seem to be anything too spectacular for owners of the Rhyme that have been waiting with bated breath for their ICS update. The update contains the following changes: under device features, “Ringtones” has been replaced with “Edit Home” when the Menu key is pressed on the home screen, Signal strength meter has been updated to 5 bar Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI), mobile networks no longer disabled when using ‘Power Saver’ and that the device is enabled with Wireless Alerting System (WAS).

As for the device dock features that have been updated, the default applications in Dock Mode have been changed to “Phone” and “Calendar”, In-call volume control has been added to Dock Mode along with an “All Apps” option and the issue of dock volume changing to 20% has been resolved. Finally, for the apps and widgets, device displays available music on the device and provides an option to purchase ringtones from the MOD application when a user is attempting to set a new ringtone through a pre-populated list and ‘Mail’ shortcut now shows unread mail count. As stated earlier, although the changelog for this update is substantial and does change a few minor things here and there, in comparison to the sweet anticipation of Ice Cream Sandwich, this 67.8MB over-the-air (OTA) update tastes bland but knowing any Android smartphone owner, you’re still going to download it.
