Android 4.x Accounts For Nearly 40% Of Android Ecosystem

It is always interesting to make a study of how a particular segment of the market changes with the ebb of time, and the same can also be said of the Android operating system. It has been some time since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was released, and hence it is nice to know that nearly 40% of the Android-powered devices in the hands of humans throughout the planet run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or better, and that would include Android 4.1 and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, of course.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was definitely the biggest winner for the month of December, which saw its market share jump from 5.9% to a rock solid 9% of the ecosystem. Nexus devices with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean made some progress, bumping up from 0.8% to 1.2%, while Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich also had some modest gains of 27.5% to 29.1%. Android 3.x Honeycomb remained the same in terms of market share, but all older versions of Android experienced decreases with Android 2.3 Gingerbread leading the way.
