Cyclists Breath Blamed By U.S. Lawmaker For Global Warming

Earth has become quite the scary place to live when you consider meteorites have been crashing into our planet and the noticeable changes in our climate in recent years. Many people have been blaming our recent climate changes on a number of things such as pollution affecting our ozone layer, but one U.S. lawmaker is blaming the huffing and puffing of cyclists.

Washington state representative Ed Orcutt recently uncovered bicycle breath as being a source of greenhouse gas and was contacted by a bike shop owner who wanted to protest a proposed tax on bicycles.

The tax was introduced as part of a larger state transportation bill, and even though Orcutt noted he is “not a fan” of many tax proposals, “it only makes sense that bicyclists would also be required to pay for the ‘roads’ they use when they are actually biking on them.” Orcutt then adds his theory on why cyclists are actually doing more harm than good for the environment:

You claim that it is environmentally friendly to ride a bike. But if I am not mistaken, a cyclists [sic] has an increased heart rate and respiration. That means that the act of riding a bike results in greater emissions of carbon dioxide from the rider. Since CO2 is deemed to be a greenhouse gas and a pollutant, bicyclists are actually polluting when they ride.

Wow.
