Fujifilm And Panasonic Announce Joint Development Of Organic CMOS Sensor

organic1Photographers who are always on the lookout for developments in camera technology will be pleased to learn that Fujifilm and Panasonic have officially announced the joint development of a piece of sensor technology that will see a light-sensitive coating applied on top of a CMOS chip.

With this new piece of technology, both the companies are claiming that this will afford higher dynamic range and sensitivity compared to current-generation CMOS sensors, along with the ability to receive light at steeper angles.

Supposedly this technology will also allow for cameras to be designed with wide-angle lenses, as well as allowing lenses to be mounted even closer to the sensor. Ultimately for the layman, this technology should result in “vivid and texture-rich images”.

No word on when production of this new light-sensitive coated CMOS chip will begin production but it will be interesting to see the results of this joint development.
