Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition Custom ROMs Headed For Sprint And Verizon

gp-editionThe first spotting of Google Play Edition Android smartphones happened last week (which caught your attention more, that or the supermoon in the sky?), and it was not too long after those handsets were announced, that the Android community already begun attempts to port the respective operating systems over to current handsets, in particular, the non-Google Play Edition models. Most of the attention by the community seemed to be concentrated on the Galaxy S4 models, where the efforts appeared to have worked on the international Galaxy S4 model – you know, the LTE-enabled version that comes with a Snapdragon chipset.

Since the US carrier models of the Galaxy S4 are not all that different from the international model, it is not surprising to hear that there is a new port which targets not only the Verizon Galaxy S4 (model SGH-I545), but also Sprint’s version of the Galaxy S4 (model SPH-L720). The Verizon ROM carries its fair share of radio quirks, where earlier builds did not show off the carrier’s name correctly, while the signal bars are slightly wonky, with other reports trickling in concerning issues with GPS reception and a broken IR transceiver. Get the respective ROMs (Verizon and Sprint) at your own risk.
