LG Confirms Wireless Charging Accessory For G2

LG-G2-hands-on-1

Not too long ago LG announced the G2 smartphone, its Snapdragon 800 processor touting behemoth. The device will be carried by major networks in the U.S., however Verizon’s variant has an exclusive feature. It was revealed yesterday when Verizon LG G2 signup page went live that the Big Red’s variant will have Qi wireless charging built in. A LG spokesperson has confirmed to Pocketlint that a separate wireless charging accessory for the G2 will be released, which will be compatible with the smartphone’s European version.

However LG hasn’t provided specific information about this wireless charging accessory. They’ve not revealed what it will be called, or how much it will be sold for, and most importantly, when it will become available. It is presumed that this accessory will support Qi wireless charging, but LG hasn’t confirmed this as yet. Qi is designed by Wireless Power Consortium and aims to become the global standard for inductive, or what is commonly referred to as wireless, charging. Big name manufacturers such as Sony, Samsung, Motorola, Nokia, HTC, Huawei and Asus are already on board. LG announced the G2 on August 7th, the smartphone has a 5.2 inch full HD IPS+ display, a 13 megapixel rear and a 2.1 megapixel front camera, among other features. In the coming months, the smartphone is expected to be available from more than 100 carriers around the globe.
