Apple Tight-lipped On iPhone 5C Pre-order Figures

Last week Apple unveiled two new iPhones, the iPhone 5S and the “unapologetically plastic” iPhone 5C. This was certainly a break from tradition, the company has never launched two iPhones together before. On September 13th, Apple and its various partners started taking pre-orders for iPhone 5C. There is no pre-order program for the iPhone 5S, analysts believe that this is due to supply constraints. Apple traditionally revealed first day pre-order figures in the past, this time around it has kept itself tight-lipped and has not revealed as yet how many iPhone 5C units were pre-ordered in the first day.

Analysts believe that Apple might have received as many as 1 million iPhone 5C pre-orders on the first day. Last year when it offered the iPhone 5, it amassed over 2 million pre-orders within the first day. Some now claim that perhaps pre-orders haven’t been strong, given that the iPhone 5C can still be booked through a number retailers, including Apple itself, with release day delivery guarantee. In the past, new iPhones has sold out in mere hours, it took iPhone 5 only two hours after which delivery dates slipped by as much as a couple of weeks. Given the absence of official figures, it is impossible ascertain right now what the pre-order demand is for iPhone 5C. Apple releases both new iPhones in ten select markets on September 20th.
