Unlocking The Xperia Z1’s Bootloader Could Disable Camera Functionality

At IFA 2013 this year in Berlin, Sony took the wraps off their new Xperia Z1 handset. While the device was more or less an upgraded version of the Sony Xperia Z, one of the main features of the device was its camera which was a 20MP camera with Sony’s G Lens on board, and with devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and Nokia Lumia 1020 in the market, presumably this would allow Sony to compete with them. In any case given that it is an Android device, we’re sure some users are bound to tinker with it and the bad news is that if you were planning to, especially if you were planning on unlocking the bootloader, well perhaps you shouldn’t.

In a message released by Sony, the company warns users that if they were to do that, the camera on the phone would stop working. Given that Sony has been pretty open and pretty cool about unlocking the bootloaders of their phones, we expect that this could be a glitch/bug that is causing this and presumably a fix should arrive in the future that will rectify it. In the meant we suggest that if you should probably wait for the fix unless you want to chance it and end up with a phone with a non-functioning camera.
