sony-lollipopIf you happen to own any one (or all) three of the following smartphones from Sony, namely the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, and Xperia Z Ultra, then here is a wee bit of good news to kick start your week with. Basically, those handsets would be on the receiving end of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update, which would make it follow the footsteps of how the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, and Xperia Tablet Z received a similar update in the week before.

It goes without saying that the devices on the receiving end this time around happen to be successors in their very own way to the series. They are no spring chickens either where the handset age is concerned, so to see Sony extend support for them until now is definitely a pleasant surprise. May this kind of attitude continue, and hopefully other handset manufacturers will be able to follow suit.

After applying the update, do expect the build number to be bumped up to 14.6.A.0.368. The new software has gone live in only a few regions at the moment, although it is expected to spread all over the world in due time. Expect this update to make the Stagefright vulnerability obsolete, with options for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in the notification menu thrown into the mix, among others.
