Gogo Launches Talk & Text In-Flight Service

The FAA may have lifted regulations that originally stopped people from being able to use their personal electronic devices during an aircraft’s takeoff and landings, but one thing they haven’t authorized is the ability to still use our cell phones in order to make phone calls or text somebody. Evem though that still holds true as of this writing, Gogo is attempting to make it possible for passengers to perform both activities in-flight.

Gogo Text & Talk is the company’s latest program that requires customers to download an application from the App Store or Google Play. Once the application is downloaded, customers will be able to send and receive text messages in-flight. The app acts as an extension of GSM or CDMA cellular networks, so long as the user is connected to Gogo’s in-flight Wi-Fi system. Phone calls are also possible for this same reason.

This is certainly a step in the right direction to allow those traveling by air to stay in constant contact with those on the ground. But if riding a bus or subway has taught me anything, being around somebody in public while they’re talking on their phone has never been a positive experience as they always tend to talk about the most personal things at levels that are way too loud for such topics.
