Nintendo To Include Same Sex Relationships In Tomodachi Life Sequel

tomodachi-life-sequelIt was just last week when the inability to carry out a same sex relationship in Nintendo’s upcoming life-sim Tomodachi Life raised quite a furore, resulting in a Miiquality campaign along the way, too. Well, Nintendo’s response was pretty nonchalant where they claimed that the company “never intended to make any form of social commentary” with the exclusion of same sex relationships in Tomodachi Life. Obviously, this response was not well received, with LGBT equality advocate GLAAD calling Nintendo as “behind the times” and that their decisions regarding Tomodachi life were “hurtful”. Nintendo has since provided an official response to the situation as follows.

“We apologize for disappointing many people by failing to include same-sex relationships in Tomodachi Life. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to change this game’s design, and such a significant development change can’t be accomplished with a post-ship patch. At Nintendo, dedication has always meant going beyond the games to promote a sense of community, and to share a spirit of fun and joy. We are committed to advancing our longtime company values of fun and entertainment for everyone. We pledge that if we create a next installment in the Tomodachi series, we will strive to design a game-play experience from the ground up that is more inclusive, and better represents all players.”

Assuming Nintendo does come up with a sequel to Tomodachi Life and localizes it, they will correct what certain quarters have seen it to be a mistake, and will be more inclusive down the road.
