However outsiders might not necessarily have the same view of the game, calling it a waste of time and are unable to see why some people are addicted to a mere video game. Well according to a Manhattan College professor of religious studies, Robert Geraci, he believes that Blizzard’s World of Warcraft represents more than just a video game, and to a certain extent can provide some kind of religious experience as well.
In a Q&A posted on the college’s website, Geraci was quoted as saying, “The questions of right and wrong appear throughout the game, engaging good and evil, of course, but also environmentalism, consumerism, and other moral concerns. There are these little ways that World of Warcraft provides a kind of religious experience.”
We’re not sure if all gamers, both World of Warcraft and non-World of Warcraft gamers will agree that the game feels like a religious experience because at the end of the day, what the player takes away from the game is highly personal, but what do you guys think? Any World of Warcraft (both current and former) gamers agree with Geraci in that the universe which Blizzard created is more than just a video game?
