Not only that, after the acquisition by Google, Emu’s mobile app will also go the way of the dodo, which is another flightless bird – ironic, isn’t it? Basically, when the 25th of August rolls around, the Emu iPhone app will no longer be made available over on the Apple App Store, while existing Emu users will find the app to be as dead as a dodo, which means it can no longer send, receive and download messages.
It remains to be seen just how much Google has forked out to acquire Emu, as Google’s executives declined to reveal any figures. We do know, however, that Emu’s development team comprises of former members who hail from the likes of Google, Yahoo! and Apple’s Siri project, and it would not be too far off the mark to speculate that the same team will eventually use their skills to good use when it comes to enhancing the likes of Google Now and Hangouts.
