Back in March this year OpenTable kicked off a pilot program in San Francisco through which it allowed users to pay for their meals at participating restaurants through its app. All users needed to do is set up a credit or debit card and then simply make a reservation at a participating restaurant through the app. OpenTable announced today that it is now expanding this feature to 20 new cities by the end of this year, starting off with New York City.

The mobile payments feature is exclusive to the iPhone app and users will need to ensure that they’re on the latest version for this to work. Those who book a table at a restaurant through the app will be able to view and pay their check at the participating venue with just a few easy taps.

Its easier for users as they get everything inside one single app. They don’t have to enter a table number to bring up the check or open up a completely different app to pay the check. There’s no scanning or barcodes involved. Diners settling the check through the app can simply get up and go when they’re done with the meal.

OpenTable has also said that it is going to increase the presence of payments in San Francisco. The entire list of participating restaurant is available on OpenTable’s website.
