Apple University isn’t exactly a new concept. It was kicked off in 2008 and it is basically a training program within corporate Apple that will train mid-level employees and managers on how executives such as Steve Jobs made their decisions during the company’s resurgence. The goal of the program was to keep Apple’s culture alive and well, beyond that of the lifetime of the executives themselves.
As the program is limited to corporate Apple, the rumors suggesting that it will be brought to China will mark it as the first time Apple has expanded the program to another country. The current Apple Vice President and Dean of Apple University Joel Podolny is said to be interviewing possible candidates for the Dean position for China’s version of Apple University.
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook had also allegedly confirmed these plans to a small group of employees, claiming that the goal will be to impart the company’s heritage and culture, and that Apple “cannot afford a weak link” between its work in the US and China. This isn’t the first time Cook has expressed the importance of the Chinese market and has considered it to be one of the company’s key markets.
