CyanogenMod Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM Plans Detailed

Now that Android 5.0 Lollipop has been rolled out and Google has released the source code to AOSP, one has to wonder what the CyanogenMod team has been up to. This team creates some of the most widely used custom ROMs for Android devices based on AOSP. Naturally fans are curious when CyanogenMod Android 5.0 Lollipop ROMs are going to be released. The team has taken to its official blog to detail its plans.

The folks at CyanogenMod say that work on CM12 ROMs, which will be based on Lollipop, “began in earnest” at the end of last week. Since CM has its own suite of features that will be integrated into Android 5.0 its going to take some time before nightly builds are released.

It is said that nightlies won’t be released until at least the end of this month or even early December. That’s because the team is aiming to incorporate all of the CM features that fans have come to love in the new code base, and it also has to reimagine those features that no longer fit with the Material Design elements in the new Android iteration.

They won’t tell us how many devices will be the first to move up from CM11 to CM12 but do hint that the number is higher than they initially believed.

Folks waiting on these ROMs need to keep in mind that at first only the nightly builds will be released, which won’t exactly be a perfect fit if you’re looking for a daily driver. It may take a couple of months before the first stable CM12 ROM is out.
