Basically, Spíritree is offering a biodegradable urn as well as tree planter, where this unique idea was designed by architect José Fernando Vázquez Pérez of Hacedor Maker. Spíritree happened to have been inspired by the death of Vázquez Pérez’s great-grandmother, where Vázquez Pérez then wanted to come up with a “device to make land sacred” that will also serve as a “remembrance of the past, [but also] a renewal of life that restores the environment for everyone’s future.”
The bottom shell of the Spiritree is made out of proprietary, biodegradable materials which will do their bit in neutralizing the alkalinity of one’s cremated ashes, and on top lies a hollow, ceramic shell that has small holes which will enable rainwater to be collected within before being released slowly. Such moisture would allow the bottom shell to decompose naturally, and as this shell breaks down, the cremated remains will then be recomposed alongside the earth below, delivering nutrients for a growing sapling.
