Google Adds Custom Voice Actions To Google Now For Selected Apps

Google Now supports many voice actions, however these actions have been limited to Google services such as, reminders, and Google cards. In the latest development, Google+ Android Developers have announced new personalized voice actions, which will launch Google Now to third-party applications (certainly via Google).

Initially, the company has announced custom voice actions for two partners apps, TripAdvisor and National Public Radio (NPR). To use the voice action, users just need to say, “OK Google, listen to NPR” this voice command will launch the NPR app and tune into a station, or to launch TripAdvisor, just say, “Ok Google, show attractions near me on TripAdvisor”.

Also, there are also many possibilities for the developers to add custom voice actions, in order to add a distinct touch to launch their app via voice command.

Moreover, Google is also taking suggestions from the developers for the voice actions that they’d like to include. Even though, the feature until now is available to the partner apps only, but Google might open it to all later on.

Google search for Android now has these Custom voice actions, but we have to wait more in order to see other developers initiate implementing the code into their respective apps. We expect Google to reveal the complete list of supported apps soon.

With this latest addition, we hope to see a transformation in the way we open apps. Meanwhile, Google has posted a list, “88 things you didn’t know you could ask Google“, which gives us an idea about how this new search would work.
